Established in 1902

In January 1902, 20 charter members founded The Yankanuck Club of Pittsburgh, a name combining "Yankee" and "Canuck." Many were Lafayette College alumni who chose this 7.5-acre island for its privacy and stronger fishing, after years of gathering nearby on Ahmic Lake.

Through the years

In the early 1900s, families arrived by steamship from Penetanguishene with supplies for the season. A cow was brought to provide milk for children, and a pig was brought to help clear snakes from the island. As the membership grew beyond Pittsburgh, the club name was eventually shortened to simply The Yankanuck Club.

Queen of all the islands

Today, 80 members carry forward a 120+ year tradition of fishing, fellowship, and island life in Georgian Bay. Each summer brings friendly fishing competition, meals announced by the dinner bell, and evenings on the front porch watching the sun set in the west.
